Smart Wool Socks are great fitting socks, possibly the best fitting pair of socks you will ever wear (if you wear a pair in your lifetime). Smart Wool is continuously working to better their sock design and currently they have what they call a 4-degree fit system; the sock is specially fitted at the ankle, arch, and two places on the instep. They've also added mesh zones on the bottom and top of the sock for breathability and added cushioning at the toe and heel in what they termed the "impact zones." Pretty high tech engineering stuff for a sock.

Smart Wool Socks are specially designed to keep your feet warm in the cold and cool in the heat by utilizing the natural properties of wool; wool was naturally designed or evolved to keep sheep warm in the winter and cool in the summer, so the fibers themselves more naturally do this than many of our artificial fibers like rayon, nylon, and polyester. Even cotton, a natural fiber, is not as good at temperature control as wool. Also the wool is better at letting sweat out before it condenses onto the skin; this helps not only with moisture and temperature control, but also with odor control.
